I agree, Craig. Good point. I think the childbirth story illustrates that there are some times when being able to rise above and not enter the pain is valuable (it sure made birthing babies more peaceful!) However, I could have gotten an epidural and had the same experience. The question for me is, are we doing our senses and our brains needless damage by making choices to take the more painful route?
